When Does an EWP Need a Major Inspection? (10-Year Rule Explained)

Most Elevated Work Platforms (EWP) will require a major inspection at around 10 years from the date of manufacture, but it’s not always that straightforward.

We often see businesses unsure of when their equipment is actually due. That’s where compliance plates and service records become important.

Each machine should clearly show:

  • Date of manufacture
  • Previous inspection history
  • Next major inspection due date

These details help track compliance with Australian Standards and ensure the machine remains safe to operate.

A major inspection goes far beyond routine servicing. It involves a full structural, mechanical and hydraulic assessment to confirm the integrity of the machine.

In some cases, inspections may be required earlier depending on:

  • Operating conditions
  • Usage frequency
  • Environmental exposure

We’ve worked through close to 250 major inspections across truck-mounted EWPs and other machines, and no two are ever the same.

If you’re unsure when your equipment is due, it’s always better to check early rather than risk downtime or compliance issues.

If you need help identifying when your EWP is due for inspection, feel free to get in touch with our team at EWP Systems.
